My travel work setup

The stacked monitor I use, how the setup fits a smaller desk, and the spare gear I carry.

Desk space is something I keep running into in rental apartments. I use an external keyboard and mouse, along with a webcam and a small podcasting mic. Add a laptop and extra screens, and the way everything fits starts to matter. I've changed the setup over time to stay as productive as possible for the job.

My portable monitor is a Maxfree M3. It has two screens stacked on top of each other, which gives me three screens with the laptop. It folds together for travel like a regular portable monitor. The stacked arrangement saves me a lot of desk space because the screens go up instead of fanning out to the sides. It connects to my laptop through USB-C.

The extra screens help with multitasking. Sometimes I have a documentary playing in the background while I work. The resolution could be better, and text occasionally looks a little pixelated. The cable is sensitive too. Those are small things to me, considering what the setup gives me. I'm being picky. It works fine.

I also use a light, folding laptop stand. It props the laptop up and reduces the space it takes on the desk. Between that and the stacked monitor, I can fit the setup into less space.

The spare gear comes from things I've had happen. I've had laptops die, so I carry a spare laptop. Chargers have died on me too, and I bring extras. There's a thumb drive in the bag because Windows has crashed on me before.

Some things I could replace by going down to a shop. I'd still rather be ready. I prefer to shop on my own terms instead of buying something out of desperation. That's why I prepare the backups ahead of time.

If I had to buy another monitor, I'd probably try the one I've been looking at from InnoView. That's the one I'm considering for a future purchase.
